It is celebration time for Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi’s detractors in the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).

They are feeling vindicated after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI’s) decision to suspend Modi from the IPL commissioner’s post.

Friend-turned-foe and RCA secretary Sanjay Dixit, who had launched a campaign against Modi on Twitter, even offering a prize to answer his daily quiz into alleged wheeling-dealing of the latter, seemed to be cherishing the moment. Soon after Modi’s suspension, Dixit tweeted, “Lalit Modi RIP (Rest in Peace).”

Dixit is not the only one to justify the BCCI’s decision. Modi-baiter and chairman of the Rajasthan State Sports Council, Shiv Charan Mali, also criticised him for being autocratic. “His working style was not democratic at all. Besides, he was short-tempered and self-centred. That is why his fall was as sharp as his rise,” Mali said.

Subhash Joshi was not in good terms with Modi. He supported Modi twice and opposed him once in the run-up to the RCA president’s election. He also mentioned Modi’s dictatorial style.
“He was adamant on delaying the RCA elections after completing his term in March last year, but most district cricket associations were in favour of holding the elections. That is why we opposed him,” Joshi said.

The only Test player from Rajasthan, Parthasarathy Sharma, said, “Infrastructure-wise, Modi had done a phenomenal job in RCA. But, his drawback was that he was arrogant and worked like a dictator. He paid dearly for his behaviour in BCCI and IPL also by losing key positions.”

On the other hand, supporters of Modi who have been keeping a low profile ever since he lost command of the RCA were careful in their response. President of the Tonk District Cricket Association, Anant Vyas, said, “A retired judge of the Supreme Court should investigate into the matter for transparent and unbiased investigations. Ratnakar Shetty, being a BCCI official, cannot ensure transparency.”
