In yet another cheating case, three people - Jayshree Patel, Veena Panchal and Satnam Tank, all residents of Rakhial - allegedly cheated some poor people of their hard-earned money by promising them houses in an upcoming Auda scheme.

The victims are daily-wage earners living in the Ramol area of the city. In fact, according to the complaint lodged with the police, Jayshree Patel had even given the victims fake receipts on the letterhead of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The Ramol police have registered a case in this regard.

According to the complaint lodged with the police, one Mukesh Pannalal wanted to buy a house in an Auda scheme reportedly coming up in the Bhawani Park area of Ramol.

He made enquires and came to know that a woman, named Jayshree Patel, looked after the allotment of houses in the Auda scheme.

Pannalal went along with a relative to Patel's house where he asked her to help him get a house. Patel demanded Rs1 lakh as registration fee.

Pannalal paid her the entire amount and Patel allegedly gave him a receipt on the letterhead of the AMC. Patel also promised them possession of the house by Navratri in the housing scheme reportedly named Satyam Yojana.

But Navratri came and went but Pannalal was nowhere near possessing the promised house. He was then told that he would get possession by Diwali but there was no sign of his ever getting the house.

Finally, Panalla demanded refund of his money but the three accused refused to return the Rs1 lakh he had deposited with them.

At this, Pannalal made fresh enquiries and was shocked to learn that he was not the only one whose money had not been returned. There were several others like him. He was able to dig out at least 13 other victims of the racket.

Pannalal and the 13 victims then decided to approach the Auda authorities together. However, the authorities told the victims that Auda had no housing scheme in the pipeline and that the receipts were forged.

On realising that they had been cheated, the victims lodged a case against the three accused with the Ramol police station.
