Kyrgyz women learn mgmt the SEWA way

As 15 women from Kyrgyzstan graduate from the SEWA management school, they will carry with them the expertise to not only manage grassroots level organisations but also the skill to further expand the same.

The women were part of a 10 day management training programme funded by the US embassy.

Their graduation ceremony will be attended by US Consul General Peter Haas.

The management programme run by SEWA, at the SEWA Manager ni School, may last a fortnight to over a month. "The objective is to create leadership and help in expansion of micro enterprise and its management," said Smita Bhatnagar, senior co-ordinator of Sewa Manager Ni School.

She said most of the women who attended the programme are in one way or the other associated with micro enterprises like milk co-operatives, the weavers' co-operatives etc.

The training sessions included exposure to various programmes and federations run by women and farmers, apart from gaining working knowledge of the way SEWA functions.
