A man was allegedly thrown out of a speeding Kolkata local train by a constable for boarding the ladies' compartment and is now recuperating in hospital.

The government railway police have begun an inquiry against the constable for allegedly throwing the passenger, Bishnu Basak, out of the Katwa-Howrah local train last night.

"The superintendent of railway police (Howrah) has been asked to personally conduct an inquiry into the incident," deputy inspector general of police (railways) Dilip Mitra said today.

"The constable has been held in the police lines. Action will be taken against him if he is found guilty," Mitra said.

Basak said that after boarding the train at Samudragarh station, he was accosted by the constable who asked him why he had boarded the ladies' compartment.

"I apologised to him saying I did not realise it was a ladies' compartment as the train was leaving when I reached the platform and I was in a hurry," Basak said.

"He then asked for my ticket. When I showed it to him, he snatched it and kicked me out of the moving train," Basak said.

Locals rushed the passenger to a nearby hospital from where he was moved to the SSKM Hospital here late at night. He was then shifted to the Sambhunath Pandit Hospital.

Mitra visited Basak at the hospital to inquire about the incident.
