Kolkata businessman killed in accidental firing

The 41-year-old victim was attending a party organised on the occasion of his cousin’s marriage in the hotel here when one of his relative, who was a resident of Delhi, fired in the air but the bullet hit the victim.

Kolkata-based businessman Rakesh Uppal was killed in an accidental firing in a hotel in Contractor’s area in Jamshedpur late last night.

The 41-year-old victim was attending a party organised on the occasion of his cousin’s marriage in the hotel here when one of his relative, who was a resident of Delhi, fired in the air but the bullet hit the victim, sjenior superintendent of police Akhilesh Kumar Jha said.

The fire-arm belonged to the bodyguard of the victim’s cousin Yogesh Malhotra, a BJP leader, Jha said.

Jha said the victim and the accused had come to attend a relative’s marriage when the incident took place.

Uppal, who sustained two bullet shot injuries, was rushed to Tata Main Hospital immediately, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Police has arrested Vishal, nephew of Malhotra, in connection with the incident, Jha added.
