The passengers and crew of Kingfisher flight destined to Chennai had a providential escape when fire and smoke broke out in the cargo which was about to be loaded into the flight just before the departure at Kochi Intternational Airport this morning.

A major mid-air disaster was averted as the cargo was not loaded into the flight when one of the courier baggage burst.

The preliminary inspection revealed that a courier bag delivered by Blue Dart contained boric acid and some chemical liquid into 200 ml bottles.

The courier baggage has been taken for detailed investigation and the officials of Blue Dart Couriers and Hindustan Unilever Company which supplied the baggage to Blue Dart were summoned to the airport for further clarifications of the contents of the baggage.

However the flight IT-2482 left to Chennai delayed by 15 minutes without the Cargo. The investigations has been launched however the negligence of CIAL Xray screeners who conducted the screening of baggage in Cargo section would have led to a major disaster. It was a clear security lapse of cargo screeners, it is alleged.
