"For my family and my supportive society members, Diwali was celebrated on November 1 after six days of fear and anxiety," an emotional Narendra Thakker, father of 17-year-old Yash Thakker said on Tuesday. They stay near Prahladnagar garden.

Yash is a student of Std 11 at SKUM School in Bodakdev. He has an older sister who is married. Narendra runs a business of supplying wood to furniture industry.

The parents of the boy were dejected after the news was carried in a local newspaper. They feared the worst for their dear son.

Explaining his turmoil, Yash said: "In the last six days, I was provided food only for two days and was hit with scissors in my hands. Today if I am alive, it is only because of police officials of the crime branch. I am thankful to them."

His uncles Mittul Kadia, Bindesh Thakker and Amrish Thakker said that while the city was celebrating Diwali and New Year, they were sitting at the crime branch office, anxiously waiting for the boy's safe release. "We never imagined the police to react to so fast and efficiently. They too did not celebrate their festival and instead devoted their entire festive time to hunting our child. Our impression about police officials has now changed and we now hold them in high respect. We are thankful to them for getting our child alive from the kidnappers' clutch,'' said Amrish.

Narendra said: "There are three societies and 63 flats and nobody celebrated Diwali. They all waited anxiously for our child's safe return. On November 1, when Yash was safely rescued by crime branch officials, they celebrated with the news by bursting crackers.''
