A Kashmiri student, who turned up at the press conference of Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah here, was detained today by the police, a senior police officer said.

The student identified as Asif arrived at the venue with a local journalist, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bhopal,  Adarsh Katiyar said.

The SSP said he was detained on suspicion that he was not a journalist. He was a student of a local college.

However, the local mediaperson with whom he came to the venue told the police that since the student belongs to Kashmir and he wanted to meet Abdullah, he came along with him to interact with the CM if the latter gave him an opportunity.

Police is verifying his ancedents and detained him in the Misrod Police station, the SSP added.

The SSP said police would release him only after verifying his antecedents.
