Karunanidhi 'spreading falsehood' on wealth case trial: Jayalalithaa

AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa today accused Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi of "spreading falsehood" on the disproportionate assets case against her.
    
"Karunanidhi's remarks that my advocate sought an adjournment of the case at the trial court on the plea that he had not got copy of the Supreme Court's order dismissing my petition, seeking dismissal of the wealth case is totally wrong. It was my advocate, who had submitted the order copy to the court," she said in a statement.

Her advocate had only sought copies of various documents of the case as her previous advocate, dealing with it, had "joined hands with Karunanidhi", she said without naming advocate N Jyoti, who represented her in the case before joining the ruling DMK.

"It is common in courts, advocates seeking adjournments and courts granting them. Expressing any opinion on it and attempts to comment on it amounted to contempt of court," Jayalalithaa said.

Karunanidhi recently said Jayalalithaa had a responsibility to explain to the people, details of the Rs66 crore disproportionate asset case, after the Supreme Court dismissed her petition seeking quashing of the case. 

The Supreme Court had early this month dismissed Jayalalithaa's plea that the Karnataka high court had erred
while holding that the trial court order taking cognisance of
the complaint on June 5, 1997, did not suffer from any illegality or irregularity.
