Karunanidhi hits out at Jayalalithaa over power situation in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu, chief minister alleged that Jayalalithaa was harping on the power cut situation in an apparent bid to divert attention from AIADMK's poor show in the March 27 Pennagaram bypolls.

Hitting out at arch-rival and AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa for her criticism on the power situation in Tamil Nadu, chief minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi today said her government when in power had done little to increase electricity generation in the state.
     
"She has levelled criticism against the government over power cuts. However, it is a fact that her government did not initiate any power generation projects," the chief minister said in an official statement here.
     
He denied Jayalalithaa's allegation that Tamil Nadu Electricity Board is importing low-calorific value coal, resulting in it sustaining losses and said gross calorific value of such coal was more than stipulated levels of the Central Electricity Authority.
     
Karunanidhi alleged that Jayalalithaa was harping on the power cut situation in an apparent bid to divert attention from AIADMK's poor show in the March 27 Pennagaram bypolls.
     
The DMK retained the seat, while AIADMK was pushed to the third spot behind PMK.
