DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Thursday hit out at the "extent" of BJP's efforts in the episode leading to resignation of Karnataka Advocate General BV Acharya, as his party lashed out at the ruling saffron outfit there, saying it was "upto anything" in the process of wooing regional parties.
Referring to the remarks made by Acharya, Karunanidhi said the former had made it clear that he resigned as AG after the government pressured him to quit as Special Public Prosecutor in the wealth case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha.
"His remarks prove the extent with which BJP and Karnataka government worked to remove him from a case involving (Chief Minister) J Jayalalithaa," he said in an apparent reference to the disproportionate assets case against his arch rival in a Bangalore court.
Earlier, party spokesperson TKS Elangovan told reporters that BJP was trying to woo regional parties and defeat Congress and in the process were "upto anything".
Observing that he would not blame the state government specifically on this, Elangovan said Acharya had said there was pressure from BJP's central leadership to quit one post "which means it could be Advani and Gadkari".
