The Karnataka high court today granted interim stay till August 4, on further investigation in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

Justice V Jagannathan granted an interim stay on the petition filed by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan.

DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan in his petition filed 10 days ago, had challenged the decision of the DVAC to conduct further investigation of the disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa.

The court then had ordered issue of notice to the special public prosecutor (SPP) and the DVAC, Chennai.

Anbazhagan had alleged that the accused, Jayalalithaa and three others, and DVAC were "hand in glove" and decision of the DVAC to conduct further investigation of the case at this stage of the ongoing trial in a special court in Bangalore was "only an attempt to destroy the evidence already on record".

However, Jayalalithaa and three others have not been made a party in the petition.

The trial court has posted hearing of the application filed by Jayalalithaa seeking exemption of her personal appearance in court under provisions of CrPC, on August 1.
