Karnataka high court declines stay on ban on mining lorry movement

The Karnataka high court today declined to stay a Uttara Kannada district administration order banning movement of vehicles laden with iron-ore and granite stones in the district.

The Green Bench comprising justice NK Patil and justice AS Bopanna declined to grant the interim injunction sought in a writ petition filed by Bharat Timbers and Construction Company challenging the order passed by the deputy commissioner of Uttara Kannada on May 17 last and published in the gazette on June 3, 2010, banning the movement of iron-ore and granite stone-laden vehicles.

The ban order was passed by the deputy commissioner keeping in mind the interest of the public as such heavily laden vehicles would take a toll on national highways causing great inconvenience to the public.
