Karnataka CM to take decision on reducing cess on petrol in 3-4 days

The Government wants to help people. But the prevailing situation is not conducive for reduction, Sadananda Gowda said.

A day after ruling out slashing of cess on petrol in the wake of the hike in price, Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda said he would take a fresh look at the issue.

"The Government wants to help people. But the prevailing situation is not conducive for reduction. The state is facing drought conditions", Gowda told reporters here.

When his attention was drawn to the fact that Karnataka has highest taxation on petrol, Gowda said "we are collecting details. The state has sufferred Rs4500 crore loss annually following ban on mining.I will discuss with Finance Department officials and take a decision in three or four days".

Gowda had Friday ruled out slashing of cess on petrol, blaming the Centre for the repeated hike in prices.
