Karnataka assembly pays homage to Jyoti Basu

Karnataka Legislative Assembly today paid homage to former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu.

Speaker K G Bopaiah, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah and others showered encomiums on Basu for his services to West Bengal and to the nation.

The House also paid homage to former MLAs Shivashanakrappa Gowda Shirwal and B P Kadam, veteran Kannada film actor K S
Ashwath, well-known stage artist Chindodi Leela, besides
journalist B V Vaikunta Raju.

The House observed a minute's silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
