Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah has strongly condemned a special story 'Hastagatam' telecast on Sakshi television news channel owned by Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy in which the latter launched a frontal attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

"The story telecast on November 19 and 20 is highly distorted with malice and is far from truth. I strongly condemn the episode telecast on Sakshi TV and also appeal to all right-thinking political leaders to condemn the highly motivated and malicious comments (against Sonia)," Rosaiah said in a late night statement.

It was highly deplorable and reprehensive to comment adversely on Gandhi's early life which was not resorted to by even the worst of her opponents, he added.

The chief minister recalled that Gandhi was elected president of Congress in 1998 when the party was in a declining stage.

She was elected as Congress president unopposed four times and under her dynamic leadership the party formed the government at the national level twice in 2004 and 2009, he pointed out.

"Sonia has never aspired to become prime minister of this country despite opportunities galore. It was the greatest sacrifice on her part which no other political leader has done in the country so far," Rosaiah said.

Strongly condemning the "highly motivated and malicious" comments made in the story against Sonia, Rosaiah asserted that all Congressmen in the state were highly supportive of her inspirational leadership.

Meanwhile, state Panchayat Raj minister Botsa Satyanarayana, former chief minister N Janardhana Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Congress committee president D Srinivas, AICC secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and several other senior leaders also came down heavily on Sakshi and Jagan over the telecast of the story against Sonia.

"We demand an unconditional apology from the television channel failing which we shall lodge a complaint with the Press Council of India," Sudhakar Reddy said.
