Judicial custody for five in connection with hooch tragedy

The court of metropolitan magistrate, GM Patel sent five people including one Chirag Thakkar to judicial custody in connection with the hooch tragedy.

The hooch tragedy left more than 150 people dead and several others seriously ill in the city.

Earlier, the crime branch produced Chirag Thakkar in court after his remand had come to an end. Chirag is brother of Jayesh Thakkar, one of the prime accused in the hooch tragedy. Jayesh had sold the deadly methyl alcohol to Dagri to increase the liquor's potency.

Sources said that the police have recovered two diary from Chirag's possession which contains list of people to whom he had allegedly supplied methyl alcohol.

Sources also said that the list includes the name of Hariom Kahar
alias Hariyo, Dadu Charra and others. It also makes a mention of one Yogesh Patel whose godown, near CTM, was used to store the methyl alcohol after it was supplied from Anand.

Sources said that 30 barrel of methyl alcohol was supplied from Anand and it was stored at Yogesh Patel's godown. 

The Thakkars have a network from Daman to Veraval and they specialise in chemical, oil and solvent theft.

Jayesh used to run a petrol pump at Mogar near Anand which was closed down after police found that it sold adulterated petrol.
