A day before the trust vote, the JMM, which has 18 members in Jharkhand assembly and is backed by seven more, today appealed to legislators of other parties to listen to their conscience and vote for chief minister Shibu Soren during the trial of strength.

"To prevent imposition of President's rule or mid-term polls in the state, we appeal to all political parties and their MLAs to listen to their inner voice and vote for Soren," JMM leaders Hemlal Murmu and Champai Soren said.

In the 82-member Assembly, JMM needs 42 votes to win the trust vote.

Asked whether the appeal was being made as talks with BJP or Congress had failed and the magic figure was eluding Soren, Murmu said "we have arithmetic clear on our side based on our discussions with others."

JMM legislator Champai Soren said five All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) MLAs and two Independents, which are backing his party, have been attending a series of meetings since yesterday.

The 14-member Congress and the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantric, which has 11 MLAs, have already made their position clear saying any efforts to form a government would be made only after the trust vote which was necessitated after the withdrawal of support by the 18-member BJP on May 24.

JD-U, which has two MLAs, had also withdrawn support.

Besides a nominated MLA, the strength of other parties in the House is RJD-5, CPI-ML(L)-1, Marxist Coordination Committee-1, Jharkhand Party-1, Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch-1and Independents-2.

The lone CPI-ML-liberation MLA Vinod Kumar Singh has already announced his decision to vote against Soren.
