They were probably the most stylish and most luxury-loving of all housebreakers the city ever saw. What's more, they had their priorities all sorted — so much so that they travelled by air for their housebreak recces in Ahmedabad, to avoid wasting time!

This rather shockingly 'well-off' gang of housebreakers was busted in the city, based on a strong tip-off. And when the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), Ahmedabad  caught the gang shocking revelations followed. Among other things, this was a gang accustomed to staying in plush hotels while on their mission, and making off with valuables  and returning by air the next day.

What's more, it appears that the Amdavadi affluence was what attracted this rather unusual gang of thugs to the city. Active in many parts of the country, this gang came to Ahmedabad for the first time in June 2010. However, so impressed were they by the wealth they saw here, that they decided to visit the city at least twice every month.

Those accused include Surendra Chauhan (27) and Fulsingh alias Kale Jat (27) from Gurgaon in Haryana, Surendra Jat (31) from Gautambuddhanagar in UP and Haricharan Varma alias Uncleji from Gaziabad. Three others, Satpal alias Fauji Chauhan, Devendra alias Devraj Naagar, and one Aditya, are still absconding.

The DCB has found out that the gang was using luxurious cars to carry out their 'operations' in the city.  The gang members were nabbed from  Gurukul and a Honda Civic car and other stolen articles worth Rs16 lakh were seized.

"The gang, after witnessing the prosperity in Gujarat, decided to conduct regular housebreaks here, instead of touring to other states," police inspector with the DCB, Kiran Patel, told DNA.
Sources in the DCB told DNA that two to four people of the gang used to hit the city first, for a recce of the areas they would eventually steal from. They stayed in posh hotels during this process. "When hotel authorities questioned them, they said they were religious visitors, and were so impressed with the temples in the state that they visited Ahmedabad regularly to visit these sites," a source told DNA.
