Jammu & Kashmir assembly adjourns sine die after tumultuous session

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly was today adjourned sine die at the end of a tumultuous session marked by an opposition boycott and marshalling out of some BJP and National Panthers Party members protesting chief minister Omar Abdullah's remarks on the crisis in the Valley.

Before speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone adjourned the House sine die, all business listed for the day was completed in the
absence of opposition PDP members who had kept away from the entire session, which began on September 30, in protest against the killing of civilians in the Valley.

The House witnessed pandemonium on Thursday when opposition BJP and NPP members stormed the well angry over the chief minister's remarks on the crisis in the Valley. Four BJP
and NPP members were injured in the rumpus which prompted the speaker to have the protesting MLAs marshalled out.

The chief minister, while referring to points raised by opposition members during a debate on law and order situation in the Valley, had said Jammu and Kashmir's accession to India cannot be compared to Hyderabad and Junagarh as the latter had merged with the Union, which was not the case with the trouble-torn state.

The two-day debate saw most of the members, barring those from BJP and NPP, demanding a sustained dialogue process for resolving the Kashmir issue and a package for the unemployed
youth.
