Jairam Ramesh's public meeting cancelled for flood

The proposed public hearing on dams by Union forests and environment minister Jairam Ramesh at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh has been cancelled.

Ramesh was expected to hear the opinions of the people on hydro-power projects in the region tomorrow.

The hearing was cancelled due to the ongoing flood in the region, sources said.

On the advice of the state government, Ramesh cancelled participation in the consultative meeting, official sources said.

The minister will come to Guwahati and attend scheduled programmes where people living in the downstream regions to be affected by 2000 MW Lower Subansiri hydro power project.

The minister agreed to come to Assam and Arunachal to have consultations after Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti of Assam with experts from Dibrugarh University, IIT Guwahati and Kalpavriksh, Siang Peoples' Forum, Downstream Anti Dam Committee of Lower Dibang Valley district and All Idu Mishmi Students' Union met him at New Delhi.
