Jaipur IOC fire caused losses worth about Rs341.23 crore: Govt

The devastating fire at the IOC fuel depot on the outskirts of the city last year caused losses to the tune of Rs 341.23 crore to its neighbouring industries, institutions, commercial and residential establishments, the government told the state assembly today.

In its reply to a question by BJP MLA G S Tiwari, the state's disaster management and relief department said 907 industries and institutions besides 219 residential and commerical establishments adjacent to the IOC fuel depot were affected by the 13-day long fire that ravaged 12 tanks and claimed as many lives.

As per the Jaipur collector's survey, the loss and claims caused by the fire to the neighbouring establishments were worth an estimated Rs 341.23 crore, the reply said. 

The claims have not yet been settled, but the state government has paid Rs 25,000 each to 1032 industrial and institutional units, 28 residential and commercial establishments as interim relief, it said.

IOC has provided Rs 50 crore to RIICO for the relief works, it said adding that due to Rajasthan high court's stay on a related matter, the settlement of claims could not be expedited.

The next of kin of six IOC employees, killed in the fire, have been paid compensation by the company.

PWD minister Pramod Jain Bhaya said an expert committee
appointed by the director general of road development (GOI)
was probing the tragic incident.

Five persons were arrested in this connection, Bhaya said, adding the legal proceedings against them were underway.

NHA has been asked to re-start the construction of the hanging bridge over Chambal river on the NH 76, the minister said.
