Jail inmate dies in Jalandhar, family alleges excessive torture

An inmate of the Central Jail here died in custody today, triggering allegation by his family that he was tortured to death by prison authorities.

Nand Kumar alias Nandu (18), who had been ill for the last few days, died while being taken to the hospital, jail sources said.

However, Nandu's family alleged that he died due to torture by the jail staff. He often complained to his family that he was being excessively tortured by the jail authorities, they said. The concerned police station has started investigation into the allegation of the family.
