Jagan Mohan Reddy booked for staging sit-in outside police station

Pulivendula Police today registered a case against Kadapa MP and YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for staging a sit-in at a local police station in protest against alleged police atrocities on party cadres.

Police have registered the case against Jagan, who staged a dharna outside the police station on Sunday, under various sections of IPC, and also under Police Act and section 3 of Criminal Law Amendment Act.

Police have also listed 300 supporters of the Kadapa MP as accused in the case.

The YSR Congress chief yesterday staged a protest outside the police station demanding suspension of two police officials for allegedly beating a party activist who had participated in anti-government protests held recently.

Party activist Rahamtulla, who participated in a sit-in organised by YSR Congress against the government policies, was allegedly beaten up by the police.

Jagan had sought suspension of Circle Inspector Sankaraiah and Sub Inspector Purushotham Raju for allegedly beating up the party worker.

Jagan who had gone to the police station to confront police about the alleged incident, however, resorted to a sit-in as no senior official was present in the station yesterday.

Pulivendula DSP Jayachandrudu is investigating the case.
