Chief minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the home portfolio, told Legislative Assembly in a written reply to the question of PDP president and leader of the opposition Mehbobba Mufti about the people detained in Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested 13 youths for instigating violence through electronic means in the valley during the summer unrest of 2010.
Chief minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the home portfolio, told Legislative Assembly in a written reply to the question of PDP president and leader of the opposition Mehbobba Mufti about the people detained in Kashmir.
Sources said the youths arrested were using popular social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter and Youtube to provoke people for protests. They were uploading material which was acting as trigger to start protests and stone-pelting.
Some of the protesters had opened accounts of fake IDs which were used to organize protests and stone pelting, sources said. However, police later cracked whip and encrypted the accounts before arresting the youths.

Omar noted during the last year disturbances, 4064 persons, who were involved in stone pelting and other law and order incidents, were arrested, of which 3900 persons released/bailed out up to January 31.
“Around 1250 persons were charged for various offences related to disturbances. Around 176 persons were detained under Public Safety Act out of them 58 detainees have been temporarily released or released on court orders”, he said
Currently 128 persons are detained in various jails in the state.
“In addition 43 persons are in police custody on remand or judicial custody in substantive offences”, he said. Over 112 people have died and over 504 injured during protests and the clashes since June 11 to September 30 in the valley. Police figures suggest that round 1351 CRPF men and 2660 police personnel suffered injuries in these clashes
Mobs also set on fire and damaged 31 government vehicles including 22 police vehicles.
