J&K Highway remains closed for fourth day due to landslides

No movement of traffic was allowed from both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu in view of heavy rains and snowfall along the highway, traffic police said.

Fresh snowfall and landslides triggered by heavy rains kept the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway closed for traffic for the fourth consecutive day today.

No movement of traffic was allowed from both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu in view of heavy rains and snowfall along the highway, traffic police said.

The highway, which is the only surface link between Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, was blocked at several places due to landslides triggered by heavy rains and snowfall, they said.

The highway was closed on March 1 due to landslides at at Shetani Nallah.

The Batote-Doda-Kishtwar road has also been blocked due to landslides at 4-5 places on the highway, they said, adding some vehicles were stranded on the highway.

The men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are working round-the-clock to clear the Highway from landslides, they said.
