The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP Friday condemned the assault on senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan for his controversial remarks about Kashmir, but said it will oppose any suggestion that may weaken the relationship between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country.

"We condemned the violent assault on Bhushan for his controversial remarks about Kashmir. Our party oppose any such suggestion or proposal that tends to weaken the relationship of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India either physically or psychologically," party's spokesperson and National Executive Member Jitendra Singh told reporters here.

Though, in a democracy, everybody is free to air his views, Singh said, people like Bhushan should always bear in mind that intellectual propriety does not allow any responsible citizen to articulate contentious, divisive and secessionist statements which are avoided even in the most developed democracies.

Citing the unanimously passed All Party Parliamentary resolution of 1994, he said that as per the resolution, the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India is full and final, leaving no room for any further debate on the issue.

Singh alleged that even those Kashmir-centric political parties which talk of any reversal in the present political status of the state are not honest about it and say so only out of political expediency.
