With Diwali just one week away, the entire city is in a festive mood. Everybody is busy preparing for the coming festival. Amid all this, why should the elected wing of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) be left behind?

Interestingly, majority of the corporators and elected wing of the civic body will be busy meeting people and strengthening their relations with the ruling party.

Mayor Asit Vora, sharing his plans of celebrating Diwali this year said, "This Diwali will be just like every year. I'll be involved in meeting lots of people from my party, friends and relatives. After this hectic schedule, I'll get a good break of few days during which I intend to shift to the mayor's bungalow." Presently, Vora stays in Maninagar and when he gets a break from his routine, he will move to the mayor's bungalow for a week.

Deputy mayor Darshana Waghela said, "On Paacham (fifth day), there is a 'sneha milan' where ruling party members will be coming. Also, on the day of New Year, a programme by chief minister Narendra Modi will be held. Apart from that, no major plans, but I'm happy I'll get a good break from work for four days."

The standing committee chairman Bhupendra Patel, surprisingly,  had something different to share. "I'm quite a religious person; so on the day of Diwali, it is a must for me to visit the temple with my family members." Other than that Patel has similar plans as Vora and Waghela of attending Modi's programme and the event at AMC.
