It seems the community clash, which broke out in Ridrol village of Mansa taluka in Gandhinagar, was driven by political vendetta. The insult of one community members at the hands of the others only added fuel to the fire which left one dead and four injured. Several shops and houses were also set on fire by the angry mob.

A day after the clashes between Patels and Thakors, Ridrol was thronged by political leaders to help calm tempers. The list of leaders who visited the village where burnt houses were still smouldering included Member of Parliament Jagdish Thakor from Patan constituency and former minister IK Jadega among others.

According to police political rivalry between two communities was the main reason why the clashes happened. They said that the Thakor community had failed to support a leader named Hari Chaudhary during the election and this irked the latter's supporters.

However, the rivalry turned ugly during the annual public feast of the village where even the Thakors were invited. At the Mahakali temple, where the feast was organised, some people snatched away plates from some Thakor community members who were about to eat their dinner. This worsened the situation and the clashes began.

Meanwhile, the police have so far booked 41 people for rioting but the main accused Ranchhod and others are still at large.

According to Mansa police inspector MK Ninama, the hunt is on to nab the others.In-charge superintendent of police, Gandhinagar, Shobha Bhutada said that that the situation is under control and the village is still under heavy police protection.

She said that the matter is being investigated.
