So far, the Congress has performed poorly as opposition, after the newly-elected body took charge. It has also failed to corner the saffron party on several pivotal issues.
The Congress has entrusted the responsibility of leader of opposition in the AMC to well-experienced and veteran leader Badruddin Shaikh.
Two experienced corporators have also been nominated in the standing committee by the party.

All the works presented before the standing committee till now were passed unanimously. Not that the BJP, the ruling party in the AMC, has been doing everything right, but the opposition has failed to corner the saffron party on several issues.
The standing committee members have also failed to present their issues in an effective manner during the zero hour. As a result the BJP does not even take notice of the issues presented during that time.
Moreover, it seems Congress members and even the leader of opposition need to focus on comprehensive study of the files presented before the standing committee.
Surendra Baxi and Mangal Surajkar, members of the standing committee, were not very clear about what was mentioned in the file containing details of digging out manholes on the BRTS route from Narol to Naroda. Still, the work was passed with the Congress's consensus.
As the contractor did not take care of manholes on the road while preparing the BRTS road, thousands in Nayannagar and Krishnanagar areas had to suffer drainage overflow.
Now, the standing committee has decided to dig out the manholes at great risk and loss to the contractor. However, no blame was placed on any official of the engineering department, who was supposed to supervise the work.
The Congress also did not insist on taking any action against the officials.
In another case, instead of cornering the ruling party on the issue of stray cattle menace in the city, the Congress was satisfied with reducing administrative charges.
Besides, the Congress did not have a clear stand on the issue of property sealing in the city. It represented the issue of plans for commercial buildings passed on plots meant for residential plots in the old city.
However, it did not oppose the ruling party's decision to change the purpose of the plot, originally meant to be a playground.
