Irate mob goes on rampage in Uttar Pradesh, torches four buses

The mob was irked by the theft of two idols — a Shivling from the ancient Kapileshwar temple and another of Goddess Durga from renowned Siddhidatri temple by — unidentified persons last night.

Irked over theft of precious idols from two ancient temples in the town, agitated mob today went on a rampage, torched four buses and damaged two others, police sources said in Kalpi city of Uttar Pradesh.

Two idols - a Shivling from ancient Kapileshwar temple and another of Goddess Durga from renowned Siddhidatri temple were stolen by unidentified persons last night, they said.

As the news spread this morning BJP workers along with other Hindu organisations staged a demonstration and blocked Kanpur-Jhansi national highway demanding action against the culprits, police said.

Meanwhile, some unidentified person indulged in vandalism and torched four roadways buses and damaged two others near Kalpi bypass, they said.

The situation came under control after officials from Orai district headquarters reached the spot and assured the demonstrators to sought out the case with in 72 hours.

"We are identifying the trouble makers and raids are being carried out to nab those who torched buses," SO Kalpi Mohd Naseem Khan said.

He said a case would also be lodged in this connection.
