Sources in the IPS circles believe that around 22 IPS officers are expected to be transferred shortly, while around 35 cops are expected to be promoted from police inspectors to deputy superintendents of police.
Sources in the home department said that the department is currently scrutinising the IPS officers' track records and postings so far, and may issue orders of fresh transfers across the state.
As per information received from sources, a significant number of IPS officers could be promoted and transferred. "There are some important posts lying vacant, and many officers are in charge of more than one department. The home department may hence attempt to end this chaos," a source said.
Sources also said that the list of IPS officers awaiting probable transfers has been pending since August, and the transfers were expected after the retirement of former DGP of Gujarat SS Khandwawala.
"After his three-month extension in August, the transfers were stopped for some time, but now, they may take place soon," said an IPS officer, who did not want to be named, to DNA.
"Once the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) clears the proposal, the orders stand to be passed immediately," the source said.
The source also said that the promotion of officers from police inspectors (PIs) to deputy superintendents of police (DySPs) is pending since the last few months. "As many as 35 police inspectors have been scrutinised and chosen to be made DySPs, and their orders may be passed soon," the source said.
The promotion of the police inspectors has been cleared by the concerned departments, and is awaiting clearance from the home department. Once that is done, the promotion orders are sure to be passed immediately.
