Woman says her husband Uzwinder had pretended to be unmarried, when he was a divorcee.The girl has also accused her in-laws of harassing her for dowry.
A city-based builder's daughter, who had come into contact with a man from Haryana and had later married him, has lodged a police complaint alleging that her husband cheated her.
The man had claimed that he was a bachelor but apparently he was a divorcee.
The girl has also stated in her complaint that she was harassed by her in-laws her dowry. Vastrapur police said builder Omprakash Saini's daughter Komal Saini has alleged that her husband, Uzwinder Saini, 33, a resident of Panchkula in Haryana, cheated her by stating that he was unmarried when he was actually a divorcee.
Komal, 26, a resident of Haveli Bungalows, Thaltej, further stated that Uzwinder's father Kishan Saini,55 and mother Salchina 50 harassed her mentally and physically for dowry.
Komal came in touch with Uzwinder through internet in 2005. The latter had written on his home-page that he was a bachelor and used to travel to Canada often, police said.
The couple fell in love with each other and in 2007, Uzwinder proposed to Komal. Though Komal accepted the proposal, her family rejected the relationship.
However, Uzwinder landed at Ahmedabad airport on May 3, 2007 and met Komal there. He repeated his proposal for marriage and Komal got married to Uzwinder on May 4, 2007 at Shubham Hall in Astodia.
But she did not tell her family about the marriage, police added.
After the marriage, Uzwinder left for his home in Haryana and Komal returned to her father's home but still did not tell anybody of the marriage.
On July 10, 2007, Komal ran away to her-laws' home in Panchkula and revealed the whole story to her family after reaching there. Later on, in early 2008, Komal's family approved of the couple's union.
They married Komal formally in Ahmedabad and also held a reception.
Komal returned to Ahmedabad later that year and gave birth to a baby girl on October 16. Komal's father also gave Uzwinder money for his trip to Canada and Komal returned to Panchkula.
Meanwhile, Komal received a mail form a woman telling her that Uzwinder had married her before and that he had divorced her for not bringing dowry. Later her husband returned from Canada and Komal fell pregnant again.
The couple was in Ahmedabad in December 2010, when Uzwinder got Komal to abort the child, police further said. Meanwhile, Komal's father suggested the couple should settle in Ahmedabad.
Uzvinder agreed but left for Haryana without informing anybody a week later.
Following this, Komal filed a complaint at Vastrapur police station against her husband and in-laws on Thursday night. Vastrapur police have registered a case of dowry and cheating against the three accused and are investigating the matter.
