Initiative for girl child gets underway in Ahmedabad

With a view to create awareness among the villagers about the girl child, an initiative by the District Panchayat and an NGO was launched miles away from Ahmedabad city on May 11, 2011.

In an attempt to welcome a girl child in the family and society, the two organisations launched the activity at Goraj village in Sanand.

The event, inaugurated by Manubhai Barot, chairperson of Manav Sewa Trust, saw remarkable response from the villagers. Amidst the loud rolling of the drums and bursting of crackers, the villagers welcomed a girl child of Boraj village, which reflected their enthusiasm.

Sharing her happiness, Gulabben Patel, the mother of the new-born child said, "It feels great to know that all these celebrations are going on for my child's birth. This is my second girl child."

The celebrations will continue for every such household of Sanand taluka where a girl child is born.
