Indian doctor gets recognition from Guinness World Records

An Indian urologist Dr Rajendra Punjabi's extraordinary work of removing the largest prostate gland from a human body has been recognised by the Guinness World Records.

"The largest prostate gland weighing 650 grams was removed from a human body by Urologist Dr Rajendra Punjabi, India, at Roberts Nursing Home, Indore" the Guinness World Records stated.

Usman Gani (55), a resident of Ujjain district was unable to urinate following the prostate gland, Dr Punjabi told reporters here.

He was operated upon and the gland weighing 650 grams was removed from his body at Roberts Nursing Home, Indore on March 15 last year, by a team led by Dr Punjabi.

The urologist said that the operation lasted for three hours adding that usually the prostate gland weighs 15 to 20 grams.

Dr Punjabi said that the weight the gland goes upto to 250 grams but does not swell up to 650 grams.

"It was an unique case in the medical history," Dr Punjabi said.
