India and Pakistan should evolve a joint mechanism to combat terror and the Asian neighbours should go ahead with the peace process, People's Democratic Party (PDP) said today.

"Peace process is a historical necessity for India and Pakistan and both have to face the menace of terrorism through joint mechanism. Instead of indulging in blame game, there is a need to move forward on the road of peace," PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said at Anantnag, 55km from here.

"Pushing the dialogue process into the cold storage will not only prove counter-productive but will also belie the hopes of millions of people in the two countries", Sayeed said at a seminar on PDP's 'self rule' formula.

The bilateral relation between India and Pakistan is directly linked to situation in other parts of the sub-continent, including Afghanistan, the former chief minister said and demanded more Kashmir-centric Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to establish lasting peace in the region.

He said implementation of the recommendations of the prime minister's Working Groups, including on reduction of troops and revocation of their special powers would give credibility to the efforts.
