There was a mad rush of spectators outside the cricket stadium waiting to get in even hours before the ODI between India-Australia got underway. People were seen thronging the stadium in large groups shouting slogans with banners and posters cheering their cricketing idols. A ODI game was played after two years in the city and the enthusiasm among avid cricket lovers was seen in and out of the stadium.
Cricket fans from Surat and Ahmedabad had also come all the way to watch the match at Vadodara. Dressed in attractive and colourful outfits, spectators were in a joyous mood. Some had come as early as 6.30am to wait for their turn to enter the stadium.
There was hardly any space for parking and many had to leave their vehicles away from the stadium. Spectators had their highs and lows on Sunday. India lost the match but there were not many who were disappointed. "I had come to cheer India and have fun especially it being a Sunday. Team India's loss was disappointing but I had fun with my family. It had been long I had come to the stadium for a cricket match," said Rajesh Pathakm a businessman from the city.
A large crowd was seen near the eateries trying to get their hand on to popcorn and other snacks. "I feel India will bounce back in the next game. The boys performed well and gave their best, but Australians played better today. I have never seen so much of enthusiasm in Barodians during a cricket match. The crowd was going berserk when our batsmen were hitting the ball out of the ground. Overall, I had fun, away from work and cheering my team at the stadium," said Pratik Patel, a avid cricket lover.
