India has had a tradition of producing individual "heroes" but has been weak in building a "capacity for teamwork" which is a critical requirement in today's age, senior Congress leader Karan Singh said today.

"We have produced individual heroes in every discipline but as far as teamwork is concerned, I think India has been rather weak in building a capacity for it so far. In today's age, teamwork is the key and we must stress on this fact," he said at the Second Annual Lecture of NIIT University in Neemarana.

"Japan and other such countries, which were totally destroyed during wars, have developed drastically in 20 years and all this is because of dedicated teamwork," he said.

Asking students to adopt a holistic approach, Singh said, "The youth of today should not take anything at face value, they have to question everything and search for answers, because the whole wisdom starts with questions."

Stressing on the need for maintaining good health, he said the body and the mind are extremely essential for all-round progress and it should not be compromised at the cost of anything.

"Keeping the body fit and sound is priceless. It is an asset and you don't need to go for expensive equipment, simple Yoga, practised through many centuries, is always at your disposal and at the same time the mind should be trained and focused for it to be sharp," the veteran leader, who is also the president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), said.
