India gifts over 1,200 computers to Sri Lankan schools

India has gifted over 1,200 computers to 250 schools in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province under its ongoing assistance programme.

At a ceremony held in Trincomalee, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ashok K Kantha gifted 1,260 computers and 218 laser printers for use in schools in the province worth Lankan Rs 160 million.

"The main focus of the Indian assistance in eastern province was improving connectivity, education and capacity building," the Indian High Commissioner said in a statement.

India has already helped the eastern province by providing a rail bus link between Batticaloa and Trincomalee.

Some 20 buses were also gifted to the state transport entity. In the power sector, India has extended credit line worth USD 200 million towards the coal power plant in Sampur.
