Students who appeared for the Class XII CBSE mathematics examination on Monday were left baffled by an incomplete question.

Pravin Tripathi, a parent of a student who appeared for the examination said that question number 26 of mathematics paper set number III had an incomplete question. "The Calculus question which carried six marks perplexed the students as it did not make any sense. The question stated - Find the interval in which the following function a) strictly increasing b) strictly decreasing," said Tripathi.

He said students were confused by the question. He said the CBSE should be held accountable for the error and students should be given grace six marks for the question.

Meanwhile, the parents and students also showed the question paper to some teachers who confirmed that the question was an erroneous one.

Lakhs of students are appearing for the CBSE class X and XII examinations at over 5,300 centres across India.

The CBSE has introduced a grading system for students of class IX and X from the academic session 2009-2010.
