Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Saturday claimed there will be no pendency of cases in courts in the state within two or three years.

"Lakhs of cases have been disposed and pendency of cases in courts has considerably decreased in Gujarat through our initiatives of Lok Adalat campaign, increasing the time of courts and decreasing vacation period," Modi said.

"Now Gujarat will be a state with no pendency of cases in courts within two or three years," he said while speaking at a oration on 'Indian concept of development'.

He said Gujarat has followed the Indian concept of development and brought a major shift in so many sectors be it agriculture, water management, rural or urban development, judiciary, livestock or anything else.

Underlining the importance of principles of great men like Mahatma Gandhi, Deendayal Upadhyay and Rammanohar Lohia, he said anything can be done by taking inspirations from those great men whose teachings have relevance in the present scenario.

"In the last ten years, we improved the situation and now we are looking forward to value addition," he said.

"Agricultural growth rate of the country is not exceeding three per cent but in Gujarat it is 11 per cent. Gujarat is a fine example of development in both industrial and agriculture in a balanced manner. We ran a campaign and made 18 lakh hectare of land worth farming," he said.

"At a time when ground water level is decreasing in the country, Gujarat is a state where the level is increasing and it is all because of the development model we followed", he said.

"We focused on livestock and their health and the growth in milk production during the last ten years is 60 per cent. Electricity was provided to a large number of villages.

"Planning should be in such a manner so that cities do not expand and villages do not split and I will do it in my state," he said.

Before the programme, more than 20 people gathered near central park adjacent to the Birla auditorium to show black flags to Modi over the arrest of IPS office Sanjiv Bhatt but they were dispersed by police before Modi's arrival.
