Globalising and Resurgent India through Innovative Transformation (GRIT) — a course taught by former president of India APJ Abdul Kalam at the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIMA), will be more inclusive this year. While the course, in the first 2 years, was only for IIMA students, for the 3rd edition of the course this year students from institutes across the country will be invited.

The GRIT course will be conducted at IIMA from September to November this year. As part of the course, a national-level event called 'ConneXion' will be organised during the last week of October. ConneXion will take up various issues to be discussed and put across to the policymakers and other stakeholders across the nation. It will also provide a platform to students from other institutes to participate, learn and contribute their share of innovative ideas.

A PGPX student at IIMA, Sandeep Deshmukh, who is also a student coordinator of GRIT-2010, said, "We will be inviting many local management institutes and engineering colleges with a request to send their students to participate in ConneXion." Talking about participants from outside Gujarat, he said, "We will have students from other states, too, but we will have to see how much arrangement we can afford in terms of logistics."

The event will have eminent people speaking on various topics. While APJ Abdul Kalam will speak on inclusive growth, other speakers will address different issues. Director with Tata Sons, JJ Irani, will speak on clean and renewable energy, executive chairman of Value and Budget Housing Corporation Jerry Rao will speak on affordable housing and executive director and president (marketing), Godrej Group, Tanya Dubash, will speak on marketing innovations.

Apart from these, CEOs and heads of different business organisations, including small firms, will also be invited to the special event. "We will get to know and understand their perspectives," Deshmukh said. As part of ConneXion, there will also be another event aimed at grooming young leaders in the country. It will deal with topics such as 'young leadership', the challenges young leaders face, how to nurture them so that they understand grassroots issues, how policies should identify potential young leaders and so on. An exhibition on Grassroots Innovations archived by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) will also be held for the GRIT course this year. The exhibition is expected to be attended by several innovators from across the country.
