IAF personnel's son drowns in Narmada Canal near Jaspur

A student of Narayan Guru College in Jodhpur crossroads, who had gone for a swim in the Narmada canal near Jaspur village in Kalol taluka drowned on Thursday. His body was fished out by the fire brigade some 24 hours after the incident - on Friday
at 4.00 pm.

The youth identified as Brijendra Singh Hooda, was the son an Indian Air Force (IAF) employee Bhim Singh Hooda.

Brijendra, 19, a FY B.com student, lived as a paying guest in Navrangpura area.

On Thursday, Brijendra went to Vadsar to meet his friends living there. He used to live in Vadsar, a village in Kolol taluka, with his family when his father, who hails from Rohtak town in Haryana, was posted at Vadsar Air Base.

From there, the youth along with his seven friends, went to Jaspur on an outing, the police said.

"He and his friend Tarang Padya plunged into Narmada Canal near the first gate of Jaspur village to enjoy a swim at around 6:00pm. However, the teenager did not come to surface for a while, even as the other boy emerged from the canal," said Usha Rada, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kalol taluka.

Worried friends called the fire brigade, which started search operations and fished out Brijendra's body almost 24 hours later, the DySP further said. 

The victims' friends have informed his parents and they are expected to reach Ahmedabad by 7:00pm on Friday by
a flight.

Kalol police have registered a case of accidental death and are further investigating the matter. 

Guj HC clerk held for molestation
Ellisbridge police arrested one Tamin alias Kamin Siddik for allegedly molesting a third-year polytechnic student on Friday. The 33-year-old youth allegedly grabbed the hand of Nilam Parasia, 19, while she was waiting in front of Government Girls' Hostel near Gujarat College.

The girl shouted for help. Soon some people caught hold of the man and handed him over to Ellisbridge police. The man was later identified as a clerk of Gujarat high court.

House burgled of Rs2.64 L
One Yogesh Vani, a resident of Aakashnim Bungalows in Bodakdev lodged a theft complaint at Vastrapur police station stating that his house on Thursday was burgled of valuables worth Rs2.64 lakh including ornaments worth Rs2. 14 lakh and Rs50,000 in cash.

House break-in complaint lodged 
One Nayana Shah, a resident of Devalay flat in Paldi lodged a theft complaint at Ellisbridge police station stating that ornaments worth Rs60,000 and Rs30,000 cash was stolen from her house.

Labourer dies in road mishap
A 35-year-old daily labourer was killed in a road accident on Friday afternoon. According to police the labourer identified as Ramji Thakore, resident of Shilaj, was crossing the road at Shilaj circle in Bopal when an approaching tanker crushed him. He died on the spot.
