Vadodara: The paratroopers of the renowned Akash Ganga team of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday exhibited parajumping, free fall and various other stunts as part of a programme organised to commemorate the silver jubilee celebrations of the local air force station.
The entire show was performed in midst of about 2,000 spectators, who had specially gathered at the air force station. Five members of the team jumped from a height of 6,000 feet and five others from a height of 5,000 feet. The magnificent performance of the team was cheered by the spectators. This was a momentous occasion for the city.
The team members jumped from the plane and didn't open their parachutes for a while, and with the help of the balance and team work they created various figures in the sky.
Major General Harkishan Singh was the chief guest, while ex-cricketer and coach of Indian cricket team, Anshuman Gaekwad, was the special guest of the event. The Akash Ganga members were felicitated by the guests of the show.
Talking to DNA, A Marwa, a senior member of the team, said, "The team members have jumped from a height of 25,000 feet. For this, they had to take oxygen bottles with them. Majority of the members have already done parajumping for about 1,500 times." It may be noted that the team has jumped from the highest tower, named KLTower, of Malaysia.
