Even as striking junior doctors of different government hospitals here continued to boycott all duties, including attending emergencies for the second consecutive day today, a senior health official asserted that there was no interruption of any medical services.

"Everything is going on, including admission of patients, as usual. There is no interruption of any medical services. The services have not been affected due to the strike as we have adequate staff to treat the patients and the people who are on strike are post graduates and house surgeons," Director of Medical Education (DME) T Raviraj told PTI.

He further said that a committee has been constituted to study the demands of the striking doctors for re-deployment of Special Protection Force (SPF), particularly at Niloufer Hospital here in the wake of attacks on doctors by relatives of patients, and other government hospitals.

The medicos, under the banner of Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJDA), have been protesting since April 21 against the withdrawal of SPF from the hospital and sought for setting up a committee to look into the security of the staff in other teaching hospitals in the state.

"Nobody is against giving security (to the doctors) but some modalities have to be worked out," Raviraj said adding that an order will be issued tomorrow to the committee to look into the demands of the striking medicos and to submit a report in a week's time to the government with necessary recommendations.

Patients, however, suffered as medical services remained disrupted at Osmania, Gandhi, Niloufer and Government maternity hospitals at Pitlaburz and Sultan Bazar here and at MGM, Warangal after junior doctors intensified their two-week long protest by not attending emergencies since last night.
