Hundreds of passengers were stranded at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Saturday because of the delay to flights caused by the thick fog over Delhi.
Both departures and arrivals from the North of the country were affected. There was chaos at the airport in the evening on Saturday.
Travellers’ bags were lying everywhere, right from the international terminal to the domestic lounge. The passengers themselves were loitering in the terminals or outside on the road.
Airport sources said that because of zero visibility in Delhi, almost all the flights coming to Ahmedabad from the national capital had got delayed.
Delhi airport opened to air traffic around five hours late on Saturday, leaving passengers stranded at various airports linked to it. The sources said that flights were delayed by 1 to 3 hours.
A GoAir flight which was scheduled to depart from the city airport at 9:45 am, actually left at 1 pm, thus getting delayed by more than 3 hours.
Two SpiceJet flights scheduled in the evening for Mumbai and Delhi, respectively, were delayed by nearly 2 hours.
