The alleged mastermind of Nadeem Saiyad murder case, Mushir Qureshi alias Mulla, is one man who keeps Juhapura on tenterhooks! His meteorical rise — from being a petty criminal involved in bootlegging and gambling to fixing real estate dealing in crores — is one of the common rags-to-riches stories of criminals.

Juhapura locals feel that if Mushir escapes the grave charges against him now, there will be no looking back. The state’s biggest Muslim ghetto has already seen dozens of similar criminals who have managed to escape even with grievous charges like murder, the latest in the line being Kalu Gardan who allegedly killed Saiyad.

“Mushir, a petty criminal was thrown out of Dariapur some 10 years ago by a notorious don following turf war. He came to Juhapura where he ‘found’ Sultan who had become the next ‘big thing’ in Fatehwadi. Mushir started his bootlegging and gambling biz. There are around six cases lodged against him in Vejalpur police station,” sources said.

Gradually Mushir entered real estate biz by dint of muscle power and soon became a fixer, said sources, adding that he allegedly captured places where poor people resided and sold them to builders for crores of rupees. He had also, incidentally fixed a deal in Vishala that cost Rs20-25 crore!

Thereafter, Mushir turned to cow slaughter business which fetched him huge profits daily. Along with Sultan, Mushir is also alleged to extort money from street vendors.

When once upon a time, Mushir’s gang could count reliable members on its fingertips, he has today earned the nickname of ‘Seth’ with hundreds of loyalists all because of money power. Kalu Gardan is one of them.
