With Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi arrested on Wednesday night, senior member Digvijay Singh asked the Uttar Pradesh government as to how many people they will put behind bars and they would not seek bail in that eventuality.

"How many people you will arrest. How many people you will put behind bars. We will not seek bail," Singh told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi pledged full support to farmers fighting against acquisition and promised not to desert them till their demands are met.

He reached Bhatta Parsaul village, the epicentre of the agitation in Western Uttar Pradesh, in the wee hours riding pillion on a motorcycle.

Rahul sat with the agitating farmers throughout the day in scorching heat to empathise with their cause and women who lost their men.

"I want to tell you that I am with you till your demands are met. Till your work is not done, the Congress party will not desert you," he said to a thunderous applause from the gathering which shouted slogans hailing him.
