Hot conditions prevail in north India

Hot conditions prevailed in most parts of north India today with
Churu in Rajasthan reeling at 41 degree Celsius.

There was no relief for Delhiites too from the simmering heat as the temperature shot to 39 degrees, five notches above normal, while the low was registered at 22 C. The maximum and minimum recorded yesterday were 38 C and 23.1 C respectively.

Churu remained the hottest place in Rajasthan, recording a maximum temperature of 41 C followed by Barmer at 40.2 C.
Elsewhere in the state, Bikaner, Sirgangangar, Jaisalmer and
Jaipur recorded a high of 40, 39.9, 39.3 and 39.2 degree
Celsius respectively.

Mercury settled several notches above normal in the states of Punjab and Haryana. 

Hisar in Haryana was the hottest in the region at 40.8 C, seven degrees above normal. The high at Karnal settled at 37.4 C, up by four degrees, while Ambala recorded a high of 37.1 C.     

Chandigarh also braved a hot day at 36 C, a rise of four
degrees.

In Punjab, Patiala recorded a maximum temperature of 38
C, up by five degrees, while that in Ludhiana settled at 37.5
deg C, four notches above normal.

In Jammu and Kashmir, temperature continued to stay above
normal despite the valley receiving overnight rains. Jammu
recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 C, over six degrees
above normal, while the high in Srinagar settled at 20 C,
three notches above normal.

The hilly state of Himachal Pradesh experienced a warm
day with capital Shimla recording a maximum temperature of
23.5 degree Celsius.

The night temperature in the 'Queen of the Hills' rose
slightly to settle at 13 C, the Met office said. The maximum
and minimum recorded for the previous day were 23.6 and 11.5
degrees respectively.

Elsewhere, Una and Sundernagar registered a maximum of 37
C and 34.4 C respectively, followed by Bhuntar (30.8 C) and
Kalpa (15.5 C).
