A home guard jawan committed suicide by jumping from the Subhash bridge into the Sabarmati on Friday evening.

The reason behind the incident is not known. Police say that he had come from Surat for election duty.

According to the Sabarmati police, the body of one Chandrakant Parmar, a 45-year-old resident of Umang Park in Ranip, was fished out from the Sabarmati by fire department officials at 4.25 pm on Friday. Parmar's elder brother identified his body.
